Howdy thar, ladies and germs! This be none other than Azzy and it is yet again time for another blogisode of GR2 (Geek Rave and Geek Rant) Weekly! As I’ve stated recently, I do thank those of you new to the Official Gr2 Weekly Facebook page for indulging in this little hobby of mine and I still need your help to get it over the 200-Like barrier so I can fulfill my promise to try out for American Ninja Warrior should that become a reality. There was certainly no shortage of both good and not-so-good things this week. Science is making life potentially much easier for Type 1 Diabetics with the creation of a Fully-functional (and implantable) pancreas to help with their Insulin, there’s going to be an Avengers cameo in the upcoming Ant-Man movie, P.T. fans are hard at work in making a “spiritual successor” that looks downright bone-chilling, players in the Steam game Ark: Survival Evolved managed to serve their own kind of justice to one of its biggest offending trolls and someone solves a Rubik’s Cube……while breakdancing. But on the more unpleasant side of things, both the Neopets online community and Reddit have descended into utter chaos (albeit for different reasons), there’s allegedly a Monopoly movie in the works (because Battleship was suuuuuuch a rousing success), Suicide Squad’s set is so depressingly dark to the point they had to hire an on-set shrink, MTV is trying to further the negative stereotypes of Anime fans, and Anime Matsuri’s founder is being accused of some pretty serious sexual harassment issues. And now peoples, time to see what won and lost at life this time around.
Geek Rave of the Week
Picture it if you will. Orlando, Florida. June 2015. A small shindig is taking place that draws quite the crowd when all of a sudden, BAM! The audience hears a raucous song and the crowd goes absolutely wild! No, it wasn’t a rock concert or even a wrestling event. But with what happened at this place, it may very well have. It was at the CEO 2015 (fighting game) tournament event that was recently held in the aforementioned Orlando. It was the semi-final of the Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 event and one of the semi-finalists, a fairly well-known eSports player by the name of Kenneth Bradley made a rather unique entrance for his match.
Oh, HELL YEAH!!!!
In case you didn’t check the link and the picture wasn’t enough of a clue, Mr. Bradley entered his match just like none other than WWE legend “Stone Cold” Steve Austin! They do say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and if that’s the case, this guy spared no expense. The mannerisms were the same, he slammed the (I assume were soda here) cans before downing them and even leveled the announcer with a perfectly-executed Stone Cold Stunner. You had to think the announcer was in on that one, but it was still just so much full of win. And for obvious reasons the crowd went absolutely bonkers for it all. Sadly though, Bradley failed to advance in the tournament. But it is very safe to assume that in the hearts and minds of most everyone who watched, he was a winner in our books. Not to get too far off the rails, this particular event is kinda similar in nature to one back in October of last year when Jim McAlister and Gary Harkins of the Scottish Premiership team Dundee F.C. celebrated a goal by mimicking the “RKO out of nowhere” Vine videos that were big at the time. Well, I do sincerely hope this has put you in a good enough of a mood to negate the rage you are sure to feel about what comes next.
Geek Rant of the Week
I’m not sure about you, but when I grew up, when I did or said something majorly stupid, I usually got punished. But apparently these days, people actually get rewarded. If you don’t believe me, just ask Mario Thissen.
You see, Mr. Thissen was playing a typical game of FIFA ’15 as his favorite team, Bayern Munich, when a missed penalty by his favorite player, Mario Götze in the 90th minute caused him to do what any batshit crazy person would do. He utterly destroyed his controller in a fit of rage. Then he proceeded to message his fave player and demand he pay him for a brand-new controller to make amends for the mishap. You would think that would be the end of things, right?
Not only did Götze actually reply, he even told him to check his messages so he could actually send him that brand-new controller! I’ve smashed a controller or two myself. But did you see me whining to Nintendo, Sony, or hell, since this involves a soccer video game, Harry Kane or Clint Dempsey? Hell effing no! No frigging wonder this whole world is going to total shit in a hurry. And per the usual when the blog ends with the Rant, some mandatory palet-cleansers to end things on a high note. So have yet another sweet Banjo Guy Ollie video and a just as sweet Did You Know? Gaming video about Tetris.
Well, my fellow geeks and geekettes across the interwebs, that brings this blogiside of GR2 Weekly to a most satisfying end. And as I tend to enjoy mentioning every chance I get, should you have any suggestions for what I should Rant and/or Rave about (please suggest away, I promise I won’t bite), feel free to follow me both on Tumblr and WordPress. But as a friendly reminder, be sure to spread the word about GR2 Weekly. You all are pretty awesome. You are equally as encouraged to post much linkage on the official GR2 Weekly Facebook page and I just as strongly encourage you to like and comment on some of the links I post. I enjoy interacting with you all. See you next week! While you’re still here, though, be sure to check out and Vote Up Lemme Addams everybody. Sonny Strait will be a happy person. 😛
